Bought to Save Her Grandmother(232)

Chapter 232 I Will Be Your Knight

Athena’s heart raced, confusion and disbelief clouding her mind as she tried to process what was happening. The sterile white walls of the operating room seemed to close in around her, and for a moment, the world felt distant and unreal. She had been on the verge of losing everything—her child, her dignity, her hope—at the hands of the man she once trusted. But now, as Gideon’s voice cut through the tension, a flicker of hope ignited in her chest.

She stared at him, still disoriented, but the clarity in his eyes gave her a strange sense of comfort. “How do you…?” she whispered, still trying to grasp the situation.

Gideon’s smile was enigmatic, though there was a hint of mischief behind it. “Don’t worry, Thea,” he said, leaning forward slightly. “I’m not here to hurt you. Quite the opposite, in fact.” He glanced at the doctor who remained quietly by the door. “The plan was set into motion long before you even entered this room.”

Athena’s breath caught in her throat as she processed his words. “You… you were behind this? You’re saving me?”

Gideon nodded, his eyes glinting with determination. “That’s right. You’ve been through enough, Thea. Byron’s cruelty has gone too far, and now it’s time for him to face the consequences of his actions.”

She felt a rush of relief flood her veins, followed by a surge of anger at how much she had suffered alone. Why didn’t I see this coming? Why did I trust him, trust Byron?

The doctor, sensing Athena’s confusion, stepped forward. “You’ll be fine. Just rest now. Mr. Hale has everything under control.” The doctor’s calm demeanor only added to the surreal feeling Athena was experiencing. Her mind was still reeling, but at least she didn’t have to face Byron’s wrath alone anymore.

“But why?” Athena asked, her voice shaky. “Why would you help me? After everything that’s happened… You don’t owe me anything.”

Gideon’s expression softened slightly, though there was a hidden sadness in his eyes. “I don’t owe you anything,” he said, his voice low, almost regretful. “But I care about you, Thea. More than you know. And you deserve better than the life Byron has tried to trap you in. I won’t let him take your child from you. Not now, not ever.”

Athena’s throat tightened as she tried to absorb his words. She could hardly believe that someone—anyone—would stand up for her after all the pain and betrayal she had endured. She had been prepared to lose everything, to be crushed under the weight of Byron’s obsession and cruelty. But now, there was a chance—a glimmer of light in the darkness.

“You’re doing this for me?” she asked again, her voice barely a whisper.

Gideon gave her a steady look. “Yes. But don’t mistake this for charity, Thea. This is about justice. You deserve to be free of him.”

Athena felt a tear slip down her cheek, and this time, it wasn’t from fear or sorrow. It was from the unexpected feeling of someone finally standing up for her—someone who wasn’t asking for anything in return, someone who genuinely cared. In that moment, she realized just how much she had needed this. Needed someone to believe in her, someone to fight for her.

“Thank you,” she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. She didn’t know how it would all play out, but for the first time in a long while, she felt a spark of hope. Perhaps, with Gideon’s help, she could take back control of her life.

As the doctor prepared to administer the final sedative to ease her through the procedure, Athena closed her eyes, not in resignation, but in anticipation. This was only the beginning of her fight. And this time, she wasn’t going to face it alone.
