Chapter 238 Similar Encounters
Byron sat in the quiet of the room, his mind racing with a mix of regret, guilt, and uncertainty. He had never felt so conflicted in his life. The weight of the situation, Athena’s coldness, and the distance between them had become unbearable. He had tried to do what he thought was best, but now, he was questioning everything—his actions, his choices, his trust.
He glanced at his phone, contemplating calling her, but he knew it would be futile. Athena had made it clear she didn’t want to speak with him, and yet he couldn’t shake the feeling that something deeper was at play, something beyond just his mistakes.
Byron ran a hand through his hair, frustrated. He had been so certain, so sure of his position—until Athena’s words, her tears, and the raw pain in her voice shattered his world. The evidence he had once thought proved his suspicions now felt like an anchor dragging him down, tying him to a mistake that might cost him everything.
He took a deep breath, making a decision. He couldn’t sit here and wallow in his self-pity. If there was a chance to fix things, he had to take it. No more running away from the consequences of his actions.
Byron stood up and walked to the door, his determination slowly building. He needed to talk to Athena, to make things right. But first, he needed to understand what had truly happened. He had to know the truth—not just the surface-level lies, but the real story, the one he had overlooked in his blind pursuit of answers.
He headed to the hospital, determined to find her. But as he stepped out into the cool night air, a thought struck him—was someone manipulating all of this? Was there someone behind the scenes who had played him like a puppet, feeding him false information to further drive a wedge between him and Athena?
The more he thought about it, the more the pieces seemed to fit together. Who would stand to gain from their separation? Who would benefit from tearing apart their already fragile relationship?
His phone rang, breaking his train of thought. It was Liam.
“Sir, I’ve packed Athena’s things as requested,” Liam said on the other end. “But, uh… there’s something strange. When I got to her apartment, I found something odd. There’s a message on her door—one that wasn’t there before.”
“What message?” Byron asked, his heart skipping a beat.
“It’s written in black marker—‘The truth will come out soon.’” Byron felt a cold shiver run down his spine. His suspicion grew stronger. Someone was manipulating the situation, but who? And why now?
“Stay there, Liam. Don’t let anyone in or touch anything. I’ll be there soon,” Byron ordered, his voice firm.
As he hung up, he knew he had to find the answers. His world was unraveling, and he couldn’t allow it to happen without uncovering the truth. Athena deserved the truth. And maybe, just maybe, he could start to redeem himself—if he could find a way to right the wrongs he had done.
With that, he rushed out, the night ahead uncertain, but the drive to make things right stronger than ever.
