Chapter 245 I Want to Kill Byron

Gideon sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration. “Sally, calm down. You need to get your facts straight before jumping to conclusions. Athena isn’t the kind of person to let something like that slide without making sure she handles it her way.”

Sally’s voice on the other end was sharp, filled with anger. “You’re telling me to calm down, but what about the baby? It’s not just about Athena anymore, it’s about what’s right! If Byron did that, he deserves to be punished. And you know I’ll help take him down any way I can!”

“That’s not the point right now,” Gideon said, his voice lowering, a hint of warning in it. “The situation is more complicated than you think. You’re only hearing half of it, and I can’t get involved with this kind of mess. If you keep talking like that, you might make things worse for everyone, including yourself.”

Sally scoffed, “You’re no fun, Gideon. Fine, but I’m not backing down from this. If Byron really did that to Athena, he’s going to pay—whether you help me or not.”

Gideon’s patience was wearing thin, but he knew Sally’s temper all too well. “Just… think it through. Athena’s not the one to mess with. Don’t do anything rash. I’ll handle it in my own way.”

Before Sally could respond, he hung up the phone and tossed it onto the passenger seat. His mind was already shifting to the next set of problems. Athena’s situation was delicate, and her methods had been far more effective than he’d anticipated. The people around her—especially Hazel—seemed to have a vast network of influence, and if anyone knew how to play the game in the shadows, it was them.

As he pulled out his phone once again, he thought of how to approach Byron. He needed to make sure everything was under control before things spiraled even further. Byron’s reaction would be key to how this all unfolded. But there was something gnawing at the back of his mind. If Byron truly was involved in something as dark as the rumors suggested, it would take a lot more than just his intervention to fix the situation.

Meanwhile, Athena was on her way back to the hospital, her thoughts still centered on her carefully laid plan. Everything was falling into place, but there was no room for error. Heather had run, which complicated things, but it wasn’t the end of the road. She had already set her sights on the next target.

As Athena entered the hospital and headed toward Evie’s room, her phone buzzed with a message. It was from Logan, updating her on the success of their efforts. Jones had fallen into the trap, and the photo of the necklace had ensured her cooperation—at least for now.

But the thing that stuck with Athena was the lingering thought about Byron. She couldn’t help but wonder how long his facade would hold up. The truth had a way of coming out, especially in the world they lived in, and sooner or later, it would all come crashing down.

She pushed the thought aside for the moment as she entered Evie’s room. The young woman was still recovering, but Athena could tell the bond between them had grown stronger through everything that had happened. She couldn’t afford to show any weakness now—especially not in front of someone as vulnerable as Evie.

“How are you feeling?” Athena asked softly, sitting beside her friend’s bed.

Evie smiled faintly, her eyes a bit dull from the pain, but she managed a nod. “Better now that you’re here.”

Athena smiled back, but her thoughts were still clouded with the growing tensions outside these walls. The calm before the storm was something she knew all too well. And soon, it would be time for everything to unfold.
