Bought to Save Her Grandmother(255)

Chapter 255 He Could Handle Her

Liam glanced at his phone, startled by the flood of messages in the group chat. The group was filled with colleagues who had always been curious about Athena’s mysterious connection with Byron. They’d speculated endlessly, but now there was something concrete that they wanted Liam to address. He swiped through the messages, quickly reading the questions and reactions.

“What’s going on, Liam? Is Athena really married to Byron?”” Did he just introduce her as his wife in the meeting?”” Is this some sort of business arrangement, or are they actually together?”

Liam couldn’t help but sigh. Athena had been so cold about the whole thing, and he knew that she wasn’t happy in this situation. But to see the way Byron still pursued her… It made him feel uncomfortable, as though he were part of something that wasn’t entirely right.

His phone buzzed again, another message from the group: “Come on, spill the beans! Are they getting married for real or is this just business?”

Liam put his phone down for a moment, rubbing his temples. What was he supposed to say? He could feel the pressure building in the room, and he knew that the whole office would be talking about it soon enough.

In the end, he replied with a vague message: “Let’s just wait and see. Things are complicated.”

When he looked up, Athena had just come out of the restroom, her face still carrying the cold expression she always wore when she was upset. He quickly put his phone down and tried to act casual, but the tension between them was palpable.

“You okay?” he asked softly.

Athena didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she just gave him a tight-lipped smile before taking a seat at the table. She didn’t look at Byron, who was sitting across the room, still lost in his thoughts.

Liam watched the two of them for a moment. There was so much unspoken between them. So much pain. He could tell that Athena had been trying to hold onto some shred of independence, but Byron wasn’t going to let her go that easily. The way he still clung to her, as though he owned her, made Liam uncomfortable. He wondered how long Athena could continue like this before she broke.

Byron caught Athena’s eye from across the room, his gaze intense and unyielding. He had this look in his eyes, like he was waiting for her to change her mind, to come back to him willingly.

But Athena, as usual, didn’t back down. She simply turned her head away, focusing on something else.

After a long moment of silence, Byron finally stood up, breaking the quiet tension in the room. “Let’s go,” he said to Athena, his tone still carrying the weight of an unspoken command.

Athena didn’t respond, but she stood up and followed him out of the room. Liam could only watch them go, knowing full well that whatever was happening between them, it was far from over.
