Chapter 259 Byron’s Statement
Heather stood in front of the mirror, still fuming after reading Byron’s statement. Her mind raced, her emotions tangled with disbelief and anger. Byron’s words, especially his mention of Athena, felt like a slap in the face. How could he paint her as someone with an open-minded attitude about her private life? How could he betray her like this?
Her fingers trembled as she held her phone. The statement had shattered her expectations, turning what she had hoped would be a public victory into a humiliating defeat. She had thought that with Byron’s reputation at stake, he would come to her defense, but instead, he had backed Athena, the very woman who had stolen his heart. Heather’s heart twisted with pain, but her rage began to overshadow everything else.
Without thinking, she logged into her social media account and typed out a post, her fingers flying over the screen. “You shouldn’t protect the one you love by hurting me. Who would protect me? I am so innocent,” she wrote, followed by a string of tearful emojis. It wasn’t just a statement; it was a cry for attention, a plea for sympathy. The post was raw and emotional, but it was also designed to incite outrage and pity.
Almost immediately, the post exploded in her notifications. People were sharing her message, commenting in sympathy, and expressing their anger at Byron’s actions. The comments flooded in, some of them supportive of Heather, while others were more critical, questioning Byron’s decision.
One comment caught her attention: “I feel sorry for Miss Ross. I’m so angry at that man.” It was the kind of support Heather had craved, the kind that made her feel like the victim. But even as the sympathy poured in, a dark thought lingered in the back of her mind: she had just exposed herself further.
But the rage that consumed her was too strong to care about the consequences. She felt as though she had been wronged on every level. Byron’s betrayal stung in ways she hadn’t anticipated. He had let her go for Athena, but now it seemed like he was letting the entire world know that he didn’t need her—he needed Athena.
Meanwhile, Athena was far away, likely unaware of Heather’s post or the latest turn in the battle over Byron’s affection. But Heather didn’t care about that right now. All that mattered was that she had been humiliated, and if she couldn’t have Byron, she would make sure he suffered for it. The game wasn’t over yet. She still had power in the public eye, and if she could manipulate the narrative, she might yet turn the tide in her favor.
The phone in her hand buzzed again, but this time, it wasn’t a notification. It was a call from her mother.
Heather didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she stared at the screen, the anger boiling inside her. Her mother would undoubtedly be thrilled with the attention Heather was receiving online, but Heather wasn’t in the mood for more praise. She just wanted to feel heard, to make her pain known.
