Chapter 290 Time to Move on
Mia’s eyes widened in awe as she processed her mother’s words. “Wow, he saved us?” she asked, her voice filled with admiration.
Athena smiled softly, her gaze lingering on the road ahead. “Yes, sweetheart. He helped us when we needed it most. And that’s why we will always be thankful to him.”
Mia tilted her head thoughtfully, trying to piece everything together. “So… he’s like a hero, right?” she asked, her tone full of wonder.
“Exactly,” Athena replied, her voice gentle. “He was a hero for us back then.”
Mia seemed satisfied with the answer, but there was something in her expression that made Athena pause. Her daughter was perceptive beyond her years, and Athena could see that Mia was already forming her own thoughts about the people around her.
They walked quietly for a few moments, with Mia skipping ahead and then coming back to hold Athena’s hand. Athena’s thoughts wandered, reflecting on the encounter with Gideon. His presence had stirred something in her, something she hadn’t expected. It was as if time hadn’t passed at all, and the years since their last meeting melted away in the warmth of their brief exchange.
But she quickly reminded herself to focus on the present. Mia and Aiden were her priority now. She couldn’t afford to let any distractions pull her away from what mattered most.
As they reached the car, Mia climbed in excitedly, chattering about the dogs in the park and asking Athena if they could go back the next day. Athena listened patiently, smiling as her daughter’s excitement filled the car.
Later that evening, when Mia was fast asleep, Athena sat at her desk, looking over the latest project documents. Her phone buzzed with a message. It was from her assistant, asking for her feedback on the preliminary report for her upcoming investment proposal.
Athena typed a quick response, but her mind kept drifting back to the encounter with Gideon. She hadn’t expected to see him again, let alone have a conversation that felt so… familiar. There was something about him that was hard to ignore.
But she couldn’t afford to get distracted by the past. There was too much at stake right now. The project in Mailand, the future of her business, and, most importantly, the stability and happiness of her family—those were her priorities.
The sound of Mia’s soft breathing from the next room reminded Athena why she had to stay focused. She closed her phone, took a deep breath, and returned to her work, pushing thoughts of Gideon and the past to the back of her mind. For now, the present was all that mattered.
