Chapter 67 Aren’t You Angry?
Byron sat in front of the TV, his eyes glued to the screen. The news report set his temper ablaze, and his anger surged uncontrollably. Grabbing a bottle of wine from the side table, he hurled it at the TV, smashing the screen into pieces. His frustration boiled over, but his actions did nothing to alleviate the turmoil within.
Meanwhile, Athena had no idea about Byron’s outburst. She was in a completely different world now. She had found peace in a small frontier town, far from the chaos of the wealthy families and their societal expectations. Unlike the hustle and bustle of the big cities, no one in this quiet town cared about the high-profile marriages or scandals of the rich.
Athena spent the morning at the market with Logan and his grandfather. The simple life they led was a stark contrast to the one she had lived with Byron. With him, her life had always felt like a facade, but here, in this serene place, she finally felt free. It had been so long since she had experienced such contentment.
After a long day of shopping and eating, Athena felt completely at ease. The evening came, and when they returned home, Evie was on the phone, venting about her new boss at work.
After leaving Byron, Athena’s pace of life slowed dramatically. She had never felt so at peace. The weight that had once burdened her seemed to have lifted. She took two days to rest, allowing herself to truly relax for the first time in a while.
Then, Gabe called, reminding her to schedule a checkup at the hospital. “A threatened miscarriage is serious,” Gabe scolded, his tone filled with concern. “You didn’t even tell me where you were. You need someone with you for this.”
“I’ll take care of it when it’s more convenient for me to move around,” Athena replied vaguely, not wanting to delve into the details.
Gabe playfully demanded that she promise to go when the time was right. Athena chuckled, appreciating the lightheartedness of their conversation.
After a moment of silence, Gabe’s voice turned more serious. “I met Miss Ross yesterday.”
Athena’s smile faltered slightly. “Did she go to your store to buy jewelry?” she asked, trying to keep her tone casual.
“Yes, she did. She came with Byron’s mother to order wedding accessories,” Gabe replied, a hint of mockery in his voice. “They made quite an entrance.”
Athena’s response was relaxed. “That’s great. Your family must be making a lot of money from it.”
For a moment, Gabe didn’t speak. Then, his voice softened with curiosity. “Aren’t you angry?”
Athena paused before answering. “Why should I be angry?”
Gabe seemed to find some comfort in her calm demeanor. “Right, what’s there to be angry about?” His relief was palpable. For him, it meant that Athena had moved on from Byron. She didn’t harbor any ill will toward him, which was a good sign.
After hanging up, Gabe couldn’t help but smile. His mood was considerably lighter.
Just then, his mother, Sadie, knocked and entered the room.
“Why are you so happy?” Sadie asked, noticing her son’s unusually cheerful expression.
Gabe smiled but didn’t answer. Instead, he lowered his gaze, content with the change in his mood.
Sadie picked up a sketch on his desk, admiring the design. “Gabe, why did you suddenly stop your wandering lifestyle? You’ve been actively involved in the business lately, even helping with the design department. What’s going on with you?”
Sadie was well aware that Gabe had been a spoiled child, doted on by the family because of his poor health when he was young. He had grown up without much interest in the company’s affairs, dreaming only of traveling the world. But recently, something had shifted in him. He was now taking the family business seriously, even contributing to the design process.
Sadie had been abroad for charity work for the past half month and hadn’t been aware of this change. But now that she was back, she was astonished to see Gabe working on such impressive designs. The first draft he had done was already exceptional, showing real potential.
