Chapter 74 Sugar Daddy
A mocking, cold smile slowly spread across Byron’s face.
“George, is it?” he said with an edge to his voice.
Athena’s steps faltered as she froze in place.
“You think I forced her?” Byron’s voice was laced with a dark amusement.
Athena stiffened, her heart pounding in her chest.
Byron glanced at her, his smile deepening. “You’re mistaken. I bought her with money. To be precise, I’m not her boss—I’m her sugar daddy.”
The words cut through Athena like a blade. She felt the sting in her chest as if something sharp had pierced her heart. Baxter’s angry, contemptuous face flashed in her mind. The twisted disdain he had shown her.
“Impossible! You forced her!” George’s voice roared, full of fury. “Athena…”
Athena didn’t turn back. There was no explanation to give.
In her heart, George had always been the one who pampered and cherished her. She couldn’t bear to see his face twisted with such disgust in her mind every time she thought of him.
She had tried to move past everything, but now… everything was coming back to haunt her.
The driver stood by the door, ready to open it for her. “Miss Newton,” he said respectfully.
Athena didn’t acknowledge him as she bent down and got into the car. The scent of Byron lingered in the confined space, making her stomach churn with discomfort.
After a brief silence, Byron entered the car in a foul mood, his presence oppressive. The car pulled away, and the tense air thickened between them.
Without warning, Byron grabbed Athena’s left hand, pulling it toward him. She flinched, her skin crawling at his touch. The scar from the injury in Salin City was still visible on her hand—a stark reminder of everything that had transpired.
Byron’s voice was unexpectedly gentle as he asked, “Where did you get hurt in Salin City?”
Athena lifted her eyes to meet his gaze. But there was no joy in them now, no warmth. Only coldness, distant and unfeeling.
“Happy now?” she asked, her voice devoid of emotion.
Byron’s irritation flared. He gripped her chin tightly, unable to contain his rising fury.
“Athena, first Gabe, and now George?” His voice dropped low, his patience wearing thin. “How much longer are you going to act like this?”
Athena smirked, her gaze almost pitying. “I’m acting nonsensical?” she repeated as if she couldn’t believe the words coming from his mouth.
Byron’s expression shifted, something like panic flashing in his eyes as he observed her unbothered demeanor. It was as if her indifference was getting under his skin.
Athena’s smile faded into something more biting. “By the way,” she continued with an icy calm, “everything was so chaotic just now. I forgot to congratulate you.”
Byron’s heart skipped a beat. He knew where this was going.
“Congratulations on the engagement,” Athena added, her voice sharp and laced with mockery.
Byron’s brow furrowed. “Are you angry?”
There was a strange glimmer of expectation in his eyes, as though he was waiting for her to show some sign of jealousy or anger. If she did, it would mean she still cared. And if she cared, maybe there was still hope for them.
But Athena just shook her head, the expression on her face cold and detached. “I’m not angry. I’m disgusted.”
Byron’s breath hitched, his hand tightening on the armrest. “I’m disgusting?” he spat, his words like venom.
“Yes,” Athena answered without hesitation, her words like a slap to his face. “You are. You said your patience had run out? Well, Byron, my patience has also run out. You’re a complete scumbag. No wonder Freya didn’t want to…”
Her voice trailed off, her anger bubbling over. She couldn’t even bring herself to finish that thought. She was done—done with the man who had never once treated her with respect.
Every word she spoke felt like a weight being lifted from her chest, even as the anger continued to build inside her. She had had enough of Byron. He had reduced her to nothing, and now, she wouldn’t let him drag her down any further.
The rage in Byron’s eyes was palpable, but it didn’t make Athena falter. She was finally done—done with his manipulation, his lies, and his twisted way of thinking. There was no turning back now. almost entirely calm.
Looking at Athena, he completely tore off his facade, revealing his true colors, and showed his sharp claws and fangs.
He kissed her.
