Chapter 146
When Catherine walked back to the front of the house, she unexpectedly met Shaun’s gaze.
For a moment, neither of them looked away.
His eyes seemed unusually intense, making Catherine feel slightly uncomfortable.
Her cheeks warmed, and she quickly lowered her head.
Shaun walked over and gently wrapped an arm around her waist.
“Are you finished with what you were doing?”
Catherine looked up in confusion before nodding.
Without warning, Shaun lifted her into his arms.
“Hey!”
Startled, she instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck.
“What are you doing?”
“You look exhausted,” Shaun replied calmly. “You should rest.”
Catherine was speechless.
Before she could protest further, he carried her upstairs.
After entering the bedroom, he carefully set her down on the edge of the bed.
Catherine sat there quietly.
For some reason, her emotions felt unusually complicated.
Ever since everything that had happened between them, she often found herself unsure of how to face him.
Shaun noticed the hesitation in her eyes.
“What are you thinking about?”
“Nothing.”
She forced a smile.
“You don’t look like someone thinking about nothing.”
He reached out and lightly tapped the tip of her nose.
The familiar gesture eased some of the tension between them.
After a moment of silence, Catherine lowered her head.
“Shaun…”
“Hmm?”
“I still feel like I’m not good enough.”
Shaun frowned immediately.
“Who told you that?”
“No one.”
She looked away.
“It’s just how I feel.”
Shaun stood quietly for a few seconds.
Then he said in a calm voice,
“You think too much.”
Catherine looked up.
“Whether you believe it or not, other people’s opinions don’t matter.”
His tone remained steady.
“What matters is what you think of yourself.”
For a brief moment, Catherine was stunned.
She had expected criticism.
Instead, she received reassurance.
The atmosphere in the room suddenly became much lighter.
“I’m going to take a shower,” Shaun said as he turned toward the bathroom.
“Get some rest. Dinner will be ready soon.”
After he left, Catherine sat alone for several minutes.
Her thoughts were still tangled.
Eventually, she stood up and walked downstairs to clear her mind.
When Shaun finished his shower and returned, he found the bedroom empty.
His brows immediately furrowed.
He went downstairs and asked,
“Where’s Catherine?”
Aunty Linda looked up from the kitchen.
“Madam went out for a walk a little while ago.”
Shaun stood there silently.
After a moment, he sighed helplessly.
No matter how calm she appeared on the surface, it seemed she still had many worries hidden in her heart.
