Chapter 243 Teaching Jones a Lesson
Jones’ mind raced as she tried to comprehend what Athena was saying. The pain in her body was unbearable, but her thoughts were more consumed by the situation unfolding in front of her. The man being dragged into the room was a stark reminder of her own dark deeds. The strange, twisted angles of his limbs sent a chill down her spine.
“Do you recognize him?” Athena’s voice cut through the silence, her tone icy. “He was the one you paid to cause the accident, wasn’t he? The one who nearly ended my friend’s life.”
Jones’ heart thudded in her chest, and for a moment, she froze. The man’s twisted form was all too familiar now—he was the driver she had hired to crash the car that had been meant for Athena. She had thought the job had been done quietly, without any trace back to her, but now here it was, all laid out in front of her.
“I… I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Jones tried to feign ignorance, her voice shaking despite her best efforts to sound confident. “This is all just a misunderstanding!”
Athena’s eyes narrowed, her gaze never leaving Jones. “A misunderstanding? You’re delusional if you think you can talk your way out of this.”
She motioned to the man with the broken limbs. “He’s the proof you left behind. And I’ve got more than just that. You didn’t think I would forget what you did to me, did you?”
The realization hit Jones like a freight train. Athena had known. She had been watching, tracking, and she had finally gathered everything she needed to expose Jones for the monster she was.
Jones began to squirm, the ropes cutting into her wrists as panic slowly seeped into her. Her whole life, built on manipulation and control, was crumbling before her eyes. Athena had her cornered, and there was no way out.
“You’ve been living a life of lies,” Athena said, stepping closer, the steel rod in her hand glinting ominously in the dim light. “All this time, you’ve tried to ruin me, to destroy everyone who stood in your way, but now… it’s your turn.”
Jones struggled, trying to push herself upright despite the pain. “You think you can do this? Do you think anyone will believe you over me?” Her voice was a low, venomous growl. “You think you can just walk in here and take control?”
Athena leaned down, her face inches from Jones. “I don’t need to take control. I already have it. And your time is up.”
Athena straightened up, giving a sharp signal. The man with the broken limbs nodded slightly and stepped back, revealing a set of documents that he handed over to Athena. The documents were damning, containing all the evidence of Jones’ crimes—the bribes, the murders she had orchestrated, the financial transfers, and the manipulations behind the scenes.
Athena held them up in front of Jones, watching as her face twisted in realization.
“You thought you could stay hidden forever,” Athena continued, “but you’ve underestimated me. You were just a pawn in someone else’s game, and now you’re exposed.”
Jones’ eyes darted to the documents, her face pale with fear. She knew the game was up. There was no escape from the truth anymore.
“I should’ve done this a long time ago,” Athena whispered, her voice colder than ice. “But now, I’ll make sure you pay for every life you’ve ruined.”
The room was silent for a moment, the tension thick in the air. Jones’ breath came in short, panicked gasps. She had spent her life manipulating, controlling, and lying her way through the world, but now it was all falling apart.
“You can’t do this!” Jones screamed, trying to break free from her restraints, her desperation clear. “I’m untouchable! You can’t—” Athena stepped back and turned to the men standing in the shadows. “Take her away. And make sure she never leaves this place.”
As they dragged Jones out of the room, Athena watched with cold, unwavering eyes. The storm she had been weathering for so long was finally coming to an end. Jones would pay for what she had done, and no one would be able to save her this time.
And with that, Athena turned her attention back to the documents in her hand. The next step was clear. She needed to go to Byron. The time to confront him was now. The truth had to come out, no matter the cost.
