Chapter 244 Josh Lee
Jones’ heart pounded in her chest as she trembled with fear, her mind racing for a way out, but there was no escape. The cold, calm expression on Athena’s face told her everything she needed to know: Athena had already won. She had no intention of backing down. The threat against Josh, a person from Jones’ distant past, was something Jones could not ignore. It was her one weakness.
“Athena, please,” Jones begged, her voice strained. “You know I’ve done terrible things, but don’t involve innocent people. I’m the one you want. If you hurt Josh, it will break me. I… I will do anything—anything but that.”
Athena’s expression remained unchanged, her eyes colder than before. She stepped back, the steel rod still in her hand, as she regarded Jones with a chilling calmness. “You should have thought about that before you played with people’s lives, Jones. You’ve hurt enough people already. Now, you’ll feel what it’s like to be helpless.”
Jones struggled against her bonds, her breath ragged and panicked. She had no control over this situation, and her attempts to bargain were futile. Athena wasn’t just angry—she was cold and calculated, and she was going to make Jones suffer for everything she had done.
“I won’t let you do this!” Jones gasped, her eyes wild with desperation.
Athena paused for a moment, her lips curling into a faint, almost pitying smile. “You don’t get it, do you, Jones? It’s not about what you want anymore. You’ve crossed the line too many times, and now it’s your turn to feel the consequences.”
As the words settled in the room, the men who had been standing in the shadows moved closer. They were the same men who had helped her track Jones and bring her to this place, and now, they were the ones who would take action.
Athena turned to them, her voice commanding. “Take her to Byron. He’ll know what to do with her. Let him deal with her in his own way.”
The men stepped forward, grabbing Jones roughly and pulling her to her feet. She stumbled, her legs weak and trembling, but the moment she made eye contact with Athena, she knew it was over. She had been outwitted, outmaneuvered, and there was no escaping the nightmare she had created.
“No! No!” Jones screamed as she was dragged away, her cries echoing in the cold, empty space. Athena watched her go, her expression unreadable, but inside, a small part of her felt satisfaction.
She had never wanted this—had never wanted to go so far—but Jones had forced her hand. And now, there would be no turning back. Athena’s gaze lingered on the door as the men disappeared with Jones, and she couldn’t shake the feeling that this was just the beginning.
The rest of her journey was still ahead of her, and with each step, she was closer to confronting Byron. The truth would come out, no matter the cost. The stakes had never been higher, but Athena was no longer the helpless woman she once was. She had become a force, and anyone who stood in her way would soon learn that.
In the distant corner of the city, Josh sat alone in his small restaurant, staring blankly at the empty tables. The last few months had been a struggle, with business not picking up and his thoughts drifting back to the woman he once loved. He hadn’t heard from Jones in years, and now he wondered what had happened to her.
Unbeknownst to him, his life was about to spiral out of control as Athena’s plan began to unfold. But for now, all he could do was continue waiting, unaware of the storm heading his way.
