Chapter 94 Take Her Home

Byron ignored Baxter and walked directly toward her. He reached out to tuck her loose hair behind her ear. “I’m here to pick you up,” he said softly, his tone gentle, yet there was no anger on his face. Still, Athena felt the tension in the air—he was on the verge of exploding.

“I…” She didn’t know what to say.

Byron’s gaze shifted upward, his eyes devoid of emotion, but somehow, that only made him seem more dangerous than ever before.

“They’ll send Miss Cross home safely,” he said coldly, his voice dripping with warning. “But if you don’t want her to go home, how about I throw her into the sea?”

“No!” Athena shook her head in horror. She knew Byron wasn’t joking.

One of the bodyguards stepped forward, his voice respectful. “Miss Newton, don’t worry. We promise to send Miss Cross home safely. We won’t harm her.”

Athena had known these two bodyguards for years and trusted them. She believed they wouldn’t hurt Evie.

“Evie, I have something to deal with. These are my friends. I’ll ask them to send you home,” Athena said, her voice trembling despite her efforts to remain calm.

Evie nodded, her expression dazed. She only pestered Athena when she had free time. If Athena was busy, she wouldn’t disturb her.

Byron reached out his hand, but when Athena looked at it, she hesitated for a moment before stretching her own hand to meet his. The moment their hands touched, Byron tightened his grip and pulled her toward the car parked by the side of the road.

Evie stood there, swaying, tilting her head as she watched them walk away.

“Wait, is Byron holding Athena’s hand?” she muttered, stumbling slightly as she tried to follow.

The bodyguard quickly stopped her. “Miss Cross, you’ve made a mistake.”

By the time Evie looked back, Byron’s car was already speeding away. She frowned in confusion. Did I make a mistake? she thought. Of course, I did. Byron’s about to get married. How could Athena be holding his hand? She hates mistresses the most!

Before getting into the car, Evie suddenly remembered Baxter was still there. She turned and waved at him. “Baxter, I’m leaving!”

Baxter stood frozen, his mind still consumed by Byron’s words. “You still didn’t learn the lesson after all these years. It’s really disappointing.”

The mocking words crushed Baxter’s pride.

After breaking up with Athena, he had learned from others that Romy was seriously ill. Only then did he realize Athena had been forced to be with Byron. Her involvement with him had provoked Byron time and again, causing her a lot of trouble. Baxter knew he was at fault.

He had tried to make amends, seeking out people who studied medicine in the hope of helping Romy. But by the time he found someone who could help, Byron had already arranged for the best international medical team to treat Romy. It was a blow to Baxter’s pride.

Feeling defeated, he went abroad for over half a year. Yet, Athena remained a thorn in his heart, one he could never quite remove. Every time he tried to forget her, it only hurt more.

When he heard Byron was about to get married, he returned immediately. He probably knew about Athena’s past through Evie and was sure that, despite everything, Athena would break up with Byron eventually. He didn’t mind her past and only hoped to make up for lost time, to reconcile with her.

But their reunion had been far more awkward than he had anticipated.
